There’s a patch up on the Touhou wiki that can retexture your EoSD and pimp it up, improving the game and also giving you the choice to insert a hitbox or not. This makes it easier on those who complain about EoSD’s higher difficulty from the missing hitbox, for those who need it.

Why did it have to be EoSD. I wish I'd have RLRBS around for PCB Extra instead.maybe not. Certain competition is stressful in a bad way but that's my problem because I can't get over it. I keep falling into the old 'if he beat me here then he's already better than me at everything else' trap. Extra - Reimu B Heartbeam - 530,174,200 - C - 0.09% - What do we have this time. This one was.a little over three hours in one night. I told myself I'd quit after capping QED but scoring only 507M because of a death to the second spell, but it was too distressing to go to sleep.
Spent 50 more minutes on it. Nothing really changed compared to the old run. More timing practice perhaps, but no grazing out for Royal Flare and some other stuff. And I've never checked the health bars to see where it lines up with the background outside the playing field. All I have are ballpark estimates. So instead of giving myself a whole life I thought I'd leave myself with a single bomb for QED., knowing I had no extra lives.
Well, only the third picture proved my point by dying early into the spell. First one was simple recklessness for staying near the middle of the screen. Actually, I forgot I was supposed to give myself a spare bomb until after I used it.
Fifth one had terrible luck with the books and other things so I went all in, not that it would have saved the score. Four of a Kind, typical foolishness of edging near the metal fatigue bullets which I knew was coming from miles away. Anyway.I finally decided on an all-or-nothing run. At least I would give my best shot against the final spell. If it gets beaten, that's fine.
I've made peace with it. Wasn't even that great. Bad positioning for the first red wave in the survival, and I felt like I came too close to some of the bullets during Maze of Love. QED was over before it even started (oh, but it's always like that?).
Stupid books! Last edited by on Wed Jan 26, 2011 3:17 pm, edited 1 time in total. That ReimuA run was just something random I did, with no planning involved.
I might go for the #1 spot later though, since it's so close and it wouldn't be too hard to improve it. I'm slowly but surely working on hitting 240 million with ReimuB. I've been pretty busy with real life recently, and I get distracted easily by other games, but I try to put in at minimum half an hour of practice a day (though I'll be taking a break for today - I'm pretty burnt out from the tournament). I've set target scores for each stage, and once I feel like I can hit those consistently I'll be working on full runs. Right now I'm mainly worried about stages 3 and 6 - I have a hard time getting good graze counts without making some kind of mistake in those levels. I'm pretty confident in all of the other levels. I actually think that 240mil might be a bit low of a target once everything is said and done, but it's better to take baby steps rather than crash and burn like I did when I first started playing.
Do you plan on going back and working on your old scores at all? Considering how well you did during the tournament it doesn't seem like it would be too hard for you to improve that Normal Reimu-B score. In fact, I've always been impressed how you can consistently do so well in all of the games. I pretty much only play EoSD, and that alone gives me enough trouble. I've always been impressed how you can consistently do so well in all of the games.
It's hard to completely suck at them if you've been playing on and off for the past two and a half years. And not all the games. I've surely steered clear of a number of them on any difficulty above Normal, and PCB is the only game I'm truly happy with. Like you said about 240M being a bit low, I've never felt comfortable with EoSD's scoring. It gets to the point where I pull off what I'm willing to do then wonder how the WR magically scores these massive, massive additional points given the graze difference. Of course, it has to be my fault for not truly understanding the impact of the star item value.
Later on I'll run it again, be willing to do very few extra things from last time (or nothing that I recall if it's with other games) and the score will magically increase out of nowhere beyond expectations. Wish I had a bullet counter. And then the motivated run. Normal - Reimu-B Heartbeam - 249,748,360 - C - 0.250% - Yeah! Fucked up the Misdirection finish again.
Finished with two extra lives and I would have gladly sacrificed them if I remembered how to spend them during Remilia's battle. Knife noncard or the newer Scarlet Netherworld method, didn't matter. Or Sakuya, but.I should have done it during Sakuya. One out-of-place mistake in stage four because I streamed too quickly. Don't worry about them, the bullets aimed at you aren't the problem.
I'd enjoy running this a lot more if the Eternal Meek safespot didn't exist. Got it down the last few practice attempts, including this run, but I don't have the absolute confidence of knowing how much room for error there is. Nomal - ReimuB marus-MPO - 230,355,090 - C - 0.271% - I finally started to do full runs afters a few months of stage practice. I still made a lot of dumb mistakes though - turns out that I get stressed pretty easily, which clouds my judgment; I need to work on that. Celebrated a little too early on Mercury Poison, and got too greedy while milking stage 6 Sakuya's nonspell.
On the other hand, it's a pretty sizable improvement from before, which is a good sign that my practice is helping. Hopefully I'll have a run I'm proud of by the time this is done. Normal - ReimuB marus-MPO - 248,390,250 - C - 0.277% - A stupid run. I messed up canceling Boss Meiling's 3rd non-spell, which cost me an easy 5 million points at least, then I died early in stage 4. Normally I would restart at this point but I decided to finish playing anyways, and in the end it didn't turn out too bad.
I lost a few bombs at Sakuya, but nothing too drastic. Stage 6 went pretty well overall.
Thankfully once I finish finals I'll have a break from both school and work until the end of next week, so hopefully I can take some time to hammer out a good run. I think my recent lack of playing had a lot to do with some of the dumb mistakes I made, but a recent shmupmeet motivated me to set time aside to start playing again. That's a damn good score there - you're pretty close to beating Heartbeam. Normal - ReimuB marus-MPO - 251,163,210 - 6 - 0.278% - I had two stupid deaths early on - I keep getting too greedy while trying to graze the stage 4 hairballs. I then suffered a sad death on the last spellcard. Despite that, I'm finally first place on a scoreboard! (even though it's probably just a temporary one) Considering how well this run went despite all my mistakes, I'd like to shoot for at least 260 million next. I might take a small break before going for that though - I think I've been playing Touhou a bit too much, and not spending enough time playing the other games I've been meaning to play. It really means a lot to have you around, but I understand if you want to have fun with other games before returning to your busy life.
I can't think of much else to say other than thank you. Of course, I want your sights set higher and not because of this run. A run that went that well with those mistakes and a capture + clear which would have pushed far past 260M? Don't sell yourself short (even though that was a bare minimum target). Normal - Reimu-B Heartbeam - 270,775,140 - C - 0.219% - Stage one went pretty well, but then I lost the lead by fumbling two of Cirno's attacks and ending them early.
About 1M there. Two deaths which caused me to not suicide at all on Remilia, the first starting with midboss China's spell.
You know how for Cirno's Perfect Freeze her blue wave might be aimed at you instead of around you because the rank wasn't up to par? For bomb grazing I would wait to accumulate 150 before firing another one, but I died before it even reached 100.
Could the rank have been too low, did bombing too early do something, was I off-center? The second death is best explained with a. After that I decided the one spare life I had wasn't worth the trouble of sacrificing and it would be left alone for a comfortable clear. Ouch, that didn't last very long at all Though it's not like I expected anything less. It's really me who must be thanking you though - I honestly wouldn't have gone this far in this game if I didn't have your back to chase after. I know 260 mil is selling myself short, but I just like setting my goals in small increments.
I have a problem being able to consistently not make dumb mistakes, but if I played perfectly then 270 mil is quite doable. Any higher than that though and I'd have to reevaluate my patterns to find out where I can squeeze out more points. But looking back at I made for myself at the beginning of this year, I see that it's already June and I've only been working on two goals (which I've already passed) and ignored the others. Of course I'll still play when I have time, but I'd like to concentrate on the rest of my goals for a bit while I'm still on break. Extra - Reimu-A Heartbeam - 510,843,100 - C - 0.096% - Having some fun with that new QED farming method. After speeding through it again to read the graze count I realized I forgot to time the bombs. Like, the gains were all over the place.
Moving up at the right time might have something to do with it as well, but it was silly to overlook that other detail. And I'm STILL RUNNING THROUGH THE STAGE WITHOUT ADDING ANY EXTRA GRAZING MEASURES WHATSOEVER. What a shame, but that's all it is. Who knows, one day I might pull out all the stops. Oh, failed Starbow Break (whaaat). And a new personal best overall graze count coming out of Silent Selene.
Normal - ReimuB marus-MPO - 268,495,880 - C - 0.263% - Blah, coming up just short of 1st place seems to be a running theme with me Even so, I'm pretty happy with this run overall. Stage 2 was a little weak, and I didn't graze Meiling's spellcards as well as I would normally like, but nothing too major. One accidental death on stage 4 but thankfully it wasn't in a very important spot. I thought about trying to milk Patchouli's 1st spellcard, and also to copy the pattern MATSU uses to graze her 2nd non-spell, but I wasn't feeling so hot so I decided to play it safe. Unfortunately I lost my rythym at the start of stage 5 which cost me a lot of graze before the midboss, but the Sakuya fight and stage 6 went okay all things considered. Anyways I think I'm done with this game for now. 268 mil is a score I'm happy with.
I don't think I could do much better without either getting lucky or a lot more practice, and as it is I'm pretty worn out on this game. On the other hand I still don't like being 2nd place, especially when I'm just a hair away from 1st. After playing some other stuff I'd like to eventually come back to this game with a fresh mindset and work on some new patterns. I might decide to finally give Extra and/or Lunatic a try as well.
